On Saturday, No. 18 Georgetown (6-5, 4-0 Big East) will take on No. 13 Syracuse (5-6, 3-0 Big East) at the MultiSport Facility. The matchup marks the first time the two teams have met since the Orange defeated the Hoyas in the first round of last season’s NCAA tournament.

The Blue and Gray enter Saturday’s game undefeated in conference after a pair of Big East victories over Louisville and Cincinnati last weekend. The Orange also boast a perfect conference record, having beaten Notre Dame, Connecticut and Rutgers in Big East play.

Georgetown moved to 6-5 on the season after overcoming a second-half Louisville comeback on Sunday to edge the Cardinals, 19-12. Syracuse improved to 5-6 over the weekend with a 12-7 victory against Notre Dame.

The Hoyas are led by senior attack Jordy Kirr, who has notched 19 goals and 22 assists this season for a total of 41 points. Sophomore midfielder Sophia Thomas leads Georgetown with 27 goals and follows close behind Kirr with 35 points.

On Monday, Kirr was named Big East offensive player of the week for her performances against Louisville and Cincinnati. Thomas was also named to the Big East honor roll for the second time this season for her outstanding play last weekend.

Kirr tallied four goals and five assists over the weekend for a total of nine points and her four helpers in Georgetown’s victory over Louisville broke the program record for career assists. Thomas racked up 10 points with six goals and four assists and forced a team-best nine turnovers.

Kirr sits on the Tewaaraton Award watch list alongside fellow captain, senior defender Logan McCraw and junior defender Kelly Barnes. Kirr and her teammates are among 55 honorees and three of 10 players from the Big East conference on the list.

The Orange offense is led this season by sophomore attack Michelle Tumolo and freshman midfielder Katie Webster. Tumolo leads her team with 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points, while Webster is first in goals with 24. Both Webster and Tumolo have been named to the Big East honor roll this season.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Hogan anchors the Syracuse defense with 88 saves and leads the conference in save percentage. This past week Hogan earned her third Big East defensive player of the week award after being named to the Big East honor roll earlier in the season. The senior made 11 saves in net for the Orange against the Fighting Irish, marking the fourth time this season she has reached double digits in saves in a game.

Georgetown defeated Syracuse last year in the regular season, 10-9, to capture the Big East regular season championship and finish undefeated in the conference. The Hoyas then downed the Orange, 13-11, to win the Big East tournament championship for the first time in program history.

The teams’ most recent matchup came last season in the first round of the NCAA tournament. After two victories over the Orange earlier in the season, the Hoyas suffered a disappointing, season-ending 15-8 loss in the first round of the tournament. Syracuse went on to lose in the NCAA semifinals to No. 1 Maryland.

The Hoyas have historically dominated the Orange, owning a 13-4 all-time advantage and a 7-1 record at home. The Blue and Gray currently lead the Big East in both goals per game and caused turnovers.

The game is scheduled to start tomorrow at noon at the MultiSport Facility.
