Improv Games, Faking It and Getting a Laugh

The Georgetown Players continue to live out their motto: “Building Community Through the Arts.” The players consist of two groups: the Children’s Theatre Company, which focuses on community service, and the Georgetown Players Improv Group (G-PIG), which performs improvisational comedy. The Georgetown Players participate in several shows each year on campus and in the D.C. area.

D.C. Elects New Council

The D.C. Council election on Tuesday marked the first time in 16 years that a Republican has not held a seat on the D.C. Council.
It was a victorious day for incumbent Democrat Kwame Brown and independent Michael Brown, who both won seats in the D.C. Council Tuesday.

D.C. Theater Groups Set for Gonda Symposium

Bringing together playwrights and composers from around the nation, the “Where Are You Taking Me?: What’s Next in Musical Theater” symposium offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the development of theater from the people who know it best.

It is a free, day-long event, hosted by Arena Stage, which will take place in Georgetown’s Gonda Theatre on Monday, Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Young Artists Push Painting to E-World

Shades of orange, pink and red blend together, creating outlines of flowers and a background of color. The flowers are almost indistinguishable from the colors, and yet they are present, offering the viewing eye an impressionistic interpretation. The piece of art being described may evoke images painted by Claude Monet or Camille Pissarro on display at the Met or the Smithsonian.

MySpace Users Trade iTunes for MyTunes With New Site

MySpace has launched a music downloading site, giving Internet users a new, less expensive alternative to iTunes.

MySpace Music, which debuted last month, allows users to download songs to their computers or MP3 players through the music player or purchase them through Amazon.com. Some songs on Amazon are only 89 cents, a dime less than those bought on iTunes.

Professor Nominated for Latin Grammy

On Nov. 13, Georgetown's Joe McCarthy will sit among the ranks of Gloria Estefan and Juanes as a nominee in the 9th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.

In 2002, McCarthy, an adjunct professor in the performing arts department, started the Afro Bop Alliance, a Latin jazz septet, here on the Hilltop.
