Hoyas Round Out Season With Two Wins
Though the Hoyas finished with a record just over .500, Georgetown’s regular season was a great success. The Hoyas entered the weekend with their postseason fate uncertain and somewhat out of their control. They did everything they could, winning both matches against Villanova (14-15, 5-8 Big East) and Seton Hall (14-15, 6-8 Big East), but it was not enough.
Weekend Efforts Fall Short
Georgetown (12-13, 5-7 Big East) had another tough weekend on the road, dropping matches to UConn (19-7, 8-3) and St. John’s (20-7, 11-1). “Earlier we loved the Big East,” Head Coach Arlisa Williams said, “but playing four of the top teams on road in back-to-back weekends is really tough.”
Hoyas Swept in Weekend Road Trip
A road trip to a pair of Big East front-runners on the schedule gave the surprising Hoyas a chance to solidify their standing heading into the homestretch. They came up short, however, dropping a pair of 3-0 losses to league powers Louisville and Cincinnati to leave Georgetown in a tie for eighth place and fighting to make the Big East tournament.
Georgetown Dispatches Rutgers, Wins Fifth Big East Contest
With its straight-set victory over Rutgers (1-16, 0-7 Big East) this weekend, Georgetown (11-9, 5-3 Big East) gained its fifth Big East win, the most it has had in seven years.
“I think our players did a great job taking care of the little things,” Head Coach Arlisa Williams said.
Bulls Overpower Hoyas in South Florida Match
The Hoyas went south this weekend and came up empty.
On Saturday, Georgetown (11-9, 4-3 Big East) fell to the University of South Florida (13-8, 4-3 Big East). “We struggled in areas we’re normally so strong in,” Head Coach Arlisa Williams said.
Georgetown Sweeps Weekend Road Trip
The volleyball team was definitely not affected by the norovirus this weekend.
Notre Dame Snaps Hoyas' Winning Home Streak
All good things eventually come to an end.
Notre Dame dealt Georgetown (8-7, 1-1 Big East) its first Big East loss Saturday, breaking the Hoyas’ five-game home winning streak. Steady defensive play and consistency on offense propelled the Fighting Irish past the Hoyas in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.
Blue and Gray Put Up a Fight in Wildcat Classic, Unable to Grab a Win
Georgetown was not able to raise its win total this weekend, but don’t be fooled. While the Hoyas lost all three matches at the Wildcat Classic in Evanston, Ill., they fell to tough teams, Northwestern (5-4), Virginia (8-4) and No. 4 UCLA (9-1), making their overall record 6-6.
