Softball Star Garners Player of the Year Honors

Sophomore shortstop Sam Peters played all 53 games for Georgetown last year, leaving her mark on the Hilltop as soon as she stepped foot on it.

She played in all 56 this year and left her mark on the national scene, as she won the Division I all-independent player of the year award.

Peters said it was a surprise that she won — and that there were awards at all.

Hoyas Dominate at Home

The athletic department might want to think about scheduling more home games for this group of Hoyas.

Georgetown trounced Coppin State (0-30) 12-0 and 20-0 on Tuesday as the Hoyas improved to a formidable 9-2 at Guy Mason Field on the season and 21-33 overall.

“I think our players really enjoy playing at Guy Mason in front of the home fans,” Head Coach Pat Conlan said.

Georgetown was seeing double this week, as it captured a pair of mid-week double headers this week with victories over LaSalle Tuesday and George Washington Wednesday to improve its record to 15-23.

For two games, the Hoyas rode the elastic right arm of sophomore Jennifer Connell, who logged a total of 24 and two-third innings out of possible 28 over the course of the two days.

In its own tournament at Guy Mason Field, Georgetown took two of three games this past weekend to improve to 9-21 overall.
Sophomore Jennifer Connell used her rubber arm to pitch 17 out of a possible 21 innings for the Hoyas, and on Palm Sunday, the Roswell, Ga., native saved her best for last in an absolute gem against Holy Cross.
