Student Assaulted and Robbed Blocks From Campus

A student reported that he was assaulted and robbed at the corner of 33rd and O Streets shortly after midnight yesterday.

At around 12:15 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department incident report, a white male in his early 20s approached the student and asked him for a cigarette. The victim told the suspect he did not smoke.

Attempted Break-In Reported at Boat House

The Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Park Police responded to a reported attempted burglary into the Washington Canoe Club, around midnight, with officers, a helicopter and a search dog.

Student Reports Sexual Assault at Gunpoint

A student reported being sexually assaulted at gunpoint on the third floor of LXR Hall early Saturday morning, launching a Metropolitan Police Department investigation and spurring Georgetown’s Department of Public Safety to consider changes to its security protocols.

Cooney Charges Dropped

The U.S. Attorney's Office dropped charges on Tuesday against Philip Cooney (MSB ’10), who was accused seven months ago of an alleged hate crime against a gay student, after deciding there was insufficient evidence against him.

MPD Veteran Takes Over in 2nd District

There’s a new sheriff in town.

Mark Carter, a 25-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, was named acting commander of the Second District, which includes Georgetown, on Monday. He is replacing former Cmdr. Andrew Solberg, who was promoted to MPD field commander.

“My intention is to make the Second District the best of the best,” Carter said.

Drunk Students Vandalize Darnall

Seniors who identified themselves as former residents of Darnall Hall’s third floor returned to the dormitory on Saturday night, destroying an emergency exit sign, dislodging the floor’s water fountain and pulling a fire alarm, according to third floor residents.
