A student reported that he was assaulted and robbed at the corner of 33rd and O Streets shortly after midnight yesterday.

At around 12:15 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department incident report, a white male in his early 20s approached the student and asked him for a cigarette. The victim told the suspect he did not smoke.

“It’s okay, neither do I,” the suspect said, after which he demanded that the victim give him his wallet, the report said.

The victim reported that after he refused to comply, the suspect punched him in the face and he fell to the ground.

The assailant then demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone, the report said. The victim complied.

The suspect, who was described as blond and around six feet tall, was last seen running east toward the 3200 block of O Street, according to the report.

The victim reported the incident to the Department of Public Safety, which called the Metropolitan Police Department and GERMS. The suspect said at the time of the incident that he did not need medical attention, according to a public safety alert sent out last night.
