Your Guide to what's hot in the District for the week of Feb. 29

Friday, February 29

Make tonight a celebration you’ll remember for the next four years and celebrate the leap year with the “No Scrubs” dance party at the Black Cat. DJs Will Eastman and Brian Billion will be spinning a mash-up of 90s favorites like the Spice Girls, Nirvana, Oasis and Boyz II Men. You can even check out a preview mix at the Black Cat’s Web site to get you in the mood to party. Plus, the proceeds from ticket sales will go toward Project Create, a charity that provides after-school art programs for at-risk children.

The “No Scrubs” dance party begins at 9:30 p.m. tonight at the Black Cat. Tickets, $7 each, can be purchased at the door or online at www.blackcatdc.com. Metro: U St./Cardozo (Green and Yellow lines).

Saturday, March 1

If you have been missing the hit comedy “30 Rock” because of the writer’s strike, don’t fret: Comedian Tracy Morgan will bring the laughs to you. Tracy Morgan will perform at Lisner Auditorium at 8 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $29.50. For more information, visit lisner.org or call (301) 808-6900. Metro: Foggy Bottom (Blue and Orange lines).

Catch the New York City Ballet at the Kennedy Center before it ends its annual engagement on Sunday. City Ballet features two different programs and nearly all of its principal dancers in tow. The 1:30 p.m. matinee performance, titled “Four Voices,” features a sampling of choreography from four legends of City Ballet, including founder George Balanchine and contemporary prodigy Christopher Wheeldon. “Balanchine and Robbins,” the 7:30 p.m. evening performance, includes a duet from Ballet Master in Chief Jerome Robbins’ “Moves,” a ballet without music.

The New York City Ballet will present seven performances between Wednesday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, March 2 at the Kennedy Center. Tickets start at $29. For more information, visit www.kennedy-center.org or call (202) 467-4600. Metro: Foggy Bottom (Blue and Orange lines).

Monday, March 3

Who knew? Shuffleboard is apparently the hot new bar game. It may not be taking over darts or pool anytime soon, but you can give the game a try at the Bedrock Shuffleboard Tournament of Champions. Three different D.C. bars are playing host to the competition tonight, the closest being Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle. Prizes include tickets to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bedrock Shuffleboard Tournament of Champions starts at 8 p.m. tonight. There is a $10 entry fee, and you must be 21 to play. Metro: Dupont Circle (Red line).

Tuesday, March 4

The National Portrait Gallery is best known for its classic collection of portraits of the U.S. presidents, but somehow Stephen Colbert wrangled his way into the hallowed halls — that is, on the wall by the bathroom. It will only be on view until April 1, so go see it now. While you’re there, check out the Gallery’s latest exhibition of hip-hop photos by David Scheinbaum, featuring stars like Public Enemy, Mos Def and the Roots.

The National Portrait Gallery is open daily until 7 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.npg.si.edu. Metro: Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Green and Yellow lines).

Wednesday, March 5

See how D.C’s other basketball team plays this Wednesday night also known as College Night for Wizards basketball in the Verizon Center. Upper-level tickets are only $10 (a discount of $38) when you show your college I.D. Tonight, Washington plays host to Orlando Magic, the leaders of the NBA’s Southeast division.

The Wizards-Magic game begins at 7 p.m. in the Verizon Center. Tickets are $10 with a college I.D. Metro: Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Green and Yellow lines).

Thursday, March 6

Blues Alley is one of those things that you really have to do before you graduate from Georgetown. You can scratch it off your list tonight, as the jazz and blues club plays host to guitarist Stanley Jordan. Jordan covers favorites like Paul McCartney, Mozart and Charlie Parker, but his unique style interprets them in a completely different way.

Stanley Jordan performs at Blues Alley at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $24, not including dinner, and can be bought online or at the door. For more information, visit www.bluesalley.com. Blues Alley is located in Georgetown at 1073 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
