It may not be the Boss himself, but this cover band is just as much fun to rock out to. Tonight, Matt Ryan and American Dream will be performing as Springsteen in the U.S.A. at the State Theatre. The band, which has been playing all over the country, performs one of the most highly rated Springsteen tributes. The Boss’s songs will be played loud and proud, so if you’ve never seen Bruce in person, or have, this is the event for you.

Chris Rock, world-famous comedian and actor, is just a short train ride away tonight. Rock, known for his stand-up act and quick wit, draws the crowd in with plenty of audience interaction. With midterms coming up, we could all use a good dose of impressions, anecdotes and side-splitting laughter.

Ring in the Chinese New Year today in the most appropriate location in D.C. — Chinatown. The shops and stores will undoubtedly be overflowing with activity all day, but the highlight of the celebration will be the Chinese New Year Parade, complete with marching bands, lions, dragon dancers and the lighting of a five-story firecracker. And while you’re there, keep in mind that this is the Year of the Rat.
The Chinese New Year Parade will travel throughout downtown Northwest D.C. It begins at the Metro stop and will march through the city’s streets. The parade is free to the public and will include ethnic foods and festivities. Metro: Gallery Place-Chinatown (Green, Red and Yellow lines).

Tonight, experience a diverse, dynamic — and best of all, completely free — dance performance at the Kennedy Center. Kenichi Ebina will be giving a one-of-a-kind performance combining many different styles of dance. The show is a blend of hip-hop, mime, jazz and ethnic styles that come together in what is sure to be a unique experience.

Take a short Metro ride or walk to GWU to see “Gala Flamenca: Mujeres,” a traditional Latin dance show dedicated to women, or “mujeres.” The Flamenco dance is famous for its free-flowing style, elaborate costumes and inspirational music. The “Gala Flamenca” features Merche Esmeralda, Belén Maya and Rocío Molina, all of whom are part of the world-wide 2008 Flamenco Festival.

Mothertongue’s Anti-Valentine’s Day Slam is a true girl-power event. This Slam will include a powerful line-up of all-female poets and storytellers. They will talk about love, hate and everything in between. The performance is sure to be both entertaining and uplifting on this day before Valentine’s Day. The all-female group will definitely calm and soothe those Valentine’s Day woes.
