The body that officials thought might be that of Terrance Davis (COL ’10) has still not been identified after it was recovered on Sept. 8, a South African sea rescue representative said early this morning.

The National Sea Rescue Institute has now asked U.S. officials for DNA samples, according to Ray Farnham, commander of the Plettenberg Bay Station of the National Sea Rescue Institute. The institute has already attempted to identify the body, which was recovered off the coast of Harkerville, South Africa, using the fingerprints on file from his passport application. Although officials expected to have confirmation last week, results were inconclusive.

Davis went missing after being swept away by a freak wave on Sept. 1 and has since been presumed drowned. Davis was visiting a Harkerville beach with fellow Georgetown junior Ellie Gunderson (COL ’10) while the two were on spring break from their fall semester abroad at the University of Cape Town. A funeral service for Davis was held on Sept. 13.
