Crew

Georgetown kicked off the spring crew season on the right foot, collecting the Cannonball Trophy at the Jesuit Invitational. The Hoyas earned the trophy for the program with the highest team score on the strength of a first-place finish in the men’s varsity 8 and a second-place result in the women’s varsity 8.

The men’s varsity 8 finished with a time of 5:56.24, about a second and a half ahead of the second-place Georgetown B team. The Hoyas, who had two or three boats in every race, finished in the top two spots of all the men’s events — the varsity 8, the second varsity 8, the freshmen 8, the light 8 and the freshmen 4.

On the women’s side, St. Joseph’s and Georgetown split the top spots in the races. The women’s varsity 8 raced to a time of 6:52.14, about four seconds behind St. Joseph’s for the top spot in the race. The women took first in the varsity 4 and the light 8.

Loyola and Boston College also competed in the regatta.

The Hoyas will be back on the water this Saturday, when they welcome Virginia to the Potomac River.
