From “The Shocker†to “screw chicks, I just wanna dance,†to his older “BK Lounge†and Koolaid material, Dane Cook is a legend among comedians and a favorite of college students nationwide. He’ll be in town tonight, performing at Verizon Center. This is sure to be the perfect way to end a stressful week.

With a gushing review by The Washington Post, Washington National Opera’s rendition of “A View From the Bridge†is sure to please audiences looking for a riveting theater performance. The national opera brings Arthur Miller's gloomy play — a story of sexual, social, political and interfamilial tension between cousins — to life using exceptionally strong acting, sets and costumes.

Sunday, Nov. 18

This is the last day for the performance of “As You Like It,†one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies, at Folger Theater. The story is about two lovers who meet by chance and fall deeply in love — uite a romantic play but comedic enough to keep you laughing. The Folger Theatre is built to look like it belongs in old England with Juliet windows.

Monday, Nov. 19

Before you sit down to enjoy turkey, tofurkey or a vegetarian or other substitute for Thanksgiving, think of those less fortunate in D.C. who don’t have that privilege. Join 400 other volunteers today at the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center and join the effort to make over 10,000 Thanksgiving dinners for residents of the Community for Creative Non-Violence shelter as well as other transitional housing facilities, community kitchens and homeless shelters.

The food preparation, called “Everything…But the Turkey†will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The District of Columbia Jewish Community is located at 1529 16th St NW. Call (202) 518-9400 for more information.

Tuesday, Nov. 20

Famed photographer Diana Walker is displaying her artwork in the exhibit “Moments Behind the Curtain†at the Addison/Ripley Fine Art Gallery. It is a display of portrait photographs of many famous people from 1970 to the present.

Diana Walker’s photographs will be on display until Dec. 1, Tues. to Sat., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Addison/Ripley Fine Art Gallery is located at 1670 Wisconsin Ave. NW. It is within walking distance from campus. For more information, call (202) 338-5180.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

Were you a fan of Pippi Longstocking as a child? Now you can step into the world of her creator, Astrid Lindgren, at Children First!, an interactive exhibit at the House of Sweden. The exhibit includes a variety of activities including a climbing wall and various Longstocking-inspired science experiments.

The House of Sweden located on 2900 K St. NW. The exhibit runs until Nov. 25, Mon to Wed, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat. to Sun. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit is within walking distance from campus and free to the public.

Thursday, Nov. 22

Want to do something about homelessness in the district but don’t know how? Just strap on your running shoes. The 6th annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger is a 5K race to benefit SOME (So Others Might Eat) a District-based charity and soup kitchen that works to combat homelessness in the nation’s capital.

The Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger will begin at West Potomac Park, (west of 17th Street and south of Constitution Avenue NW). The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Walking or jogging with dogs is encouraged. Participation costs $20. Metro: Smithsonian (Blue and Orange lines).
