Basketball season is finally here! The Hoyas kick off the season against William and Mary. The team is practiced, pumped and ready to begin the season at home. This game is sure to be a great time, so make sure to head down to Verizon Center. Wear your blue and gray and remember: There is no such thing as too much Hoya spirit.

Hungry for some art? Then check out “Food Glorious Food,” an art exhibit featuring paintings, sculptures and photographs about one of college students’ favorite subjects: food. With the theme “Diversity: Think Globally, Eat Locally” the exhibit takes a look at many types of foods, including world and local eats. This exhibit offers an amazing perspective on food, and it’ll really make you appreciate Leo’s…just kidding.
“Food Glorious Food” runs through Nov. 25 at the Zenith Gallery, located at 413 Seventh St. NW. Admission is free. For more information call (202) 783-2963. The African American Veterans’ Day Program is being held today. Events include music, speeches and dramatic presentations to commend black men and women who have fought for our country. The program — sponsored by several groups, including the Alexandria Chapter of NAACP — promises to be a memorable way to honor black veterans, as well as a great event for history buffs.
The African American Veterans Day Program takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will take place at the Alexandria Black History Museum, located at 902 Wythe St. in Alexandria. Admission is free. For more information call (202) 838-4356. Metro: Braddock Road (Blue and Yellow lines).
The Washington National Opera is hosting “Don Giovanni” a world-renowned opera composed by Mozart, at the Kennedy Center. “Don Giovanni” is the tale of a famous womanizer who gets one last chance to repent of his less-than-pure way of life. But when he commits murder and blasphemy, natural and supernatural forces unite to avenge the many women he has wronged.
The show takes place at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost between $45 and $300. For more information call (202) 467-4600. The Kennedy Center is accessible by walking or by Metro: Foggy Bottom/GWU (Blue and Orange lines).
If you want to learn baseball from a seasoned veteran, then come watch Tommy Lasorda, former Los Angeles Dodgers manager and a member of the Hall of Fame, discuss his long career with Bill Plaschke of the LA Times. The conversation will be a direct look at the personal life of a professional baseball player, the mental effects of the game and Lasorda’s transition from player to executive.

“Botanica” is an art exhibit featuring 13 local artists’ works with the participation of several local galleries in the D.C. area. The artwork is a diverse mix of paintings, photographs and sculptures sure to please any art aficionado. The 700-foot Carroll Square Gallery, located a few short blocks from Verizon Center, houses all of the works.
“Botanica” runs through Nov. 16 at the Carroll Square Gallery, located at 975 F St. NW. It is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. and admission is free. Metro: Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Yellow and Green lines).
