Appointments to Georgetown University Student Association’s newly launched Freshman Executive Outreach Committee, designed exclusively for freshmen hoping to take part in the organization, will be announced this coming Sunday.

“The idea was that a lot of senators ran — over 30 freshmen ran for senate seats — so we wanted to offer other avenues for freshman to get involved,” GUSA Chief of Staff Jake Sticka (COL ’13) said.

According to Co-Director of the GUSA Executive Outreach Committee Erica Pincus (SFS ’13), the goal is to improve GUSA’s understanding of student issues.

“The current GUSA administration is very committed [to] communicating with the campus community,” Pincus said. “The GUSA Freshmen Executive Outreach Committee is just another way we’re hoping to do that.”

According to Sticka, GUSA will appoint between five and six freshmen to work with the outreach directors. Applications were released to the student body Sunday night.

Members of the committee will serve as liaisons between the GUSA executive and the campus community on various initiatives.

“We’re hoping this committee will enable us to empower those students who are interested in getting involved in GUSA and take ownership of their experiences with the student government and the community in general,” Pincus said.
