LECTURE SERIES Lecture Series Honors Lepgold By Andrew Tein Hoya Staff Writer

To commemorate the lives of Professor Joseph Lepgold, his wife Nicki Dean and son Jordan Lepgold, the Department of Government and the School of Foreign Service are jointly sponsoring the first annual Lepgold Distinguished Lecture Series.

Lepgold held a joint appointment in the School of Foreign Service and the Government Department and earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University.

All three members of the Lepgold family died as a result of injuries suffered in a November electrical fire at their hotel while vacationing in Paris over Thanksgiving break. Lepgold was in Paris to present a lecture Nov. 20 at the Geneva Center for Security Policy and the American Center at Sciences Politique, a political science university in Paris. His family joined him for the lecture to tour Paris and other areas of France over the break.

In line with Lepgold’s involvment with both Georgetown’s Government Department and the School of Foreign Service, the lecture series will focus heavily on international issues and conflict resolution. The first lecture in the series will continue the discussion Legpold began with his most recent book, coauthored by Miroslav Nincic, Beyond the Ivory Tower: International Relations Theory and the Issue of Policy Relevance.

On April 25 Lepgold’s doctoral thesis advisor Dr. Stephen D. Krasner will present a lecture entitled “What, If Anything, Can Policy Makers Learn from Political Science?”

“All of us who knew Joe respected him and knew him as a friend and colleague,” Robert Gallucci, Dean of the School of Foreign Service, said in an earlier inerview.
