D.C. Discount Bus Options to Expand, Include Philly and Boston Routes
As early as Nov. 20, Washington residents will have a new discount bus service to choose when traveling to Philadelphia, Boston or Wilmington, Del.
According to the DCist, TransportAzumah — a bus company that calls itself the “next generation in mass transport” — will offer routes to Philadelphia and Boston beginning Nov. 20, and service to Wilmington beginning Nov. 24.
“Some of these markets are underserved, particularly Washington to Philadelphia,” said Joel Azumah, owner of TransportAzumah. “According to some estimates, the Washington to Philadelphia market is much larger than Boston to New York, but it is not reflected in the bus services offered.”
Azumah said that the new bus line will be a good option for students.
“Students will definitely benefit from these services. All seating is reserved, so there are no worries with regard to waiting at a crowded street corner or bus station for hours. The fares are also very affordable,” Azumah said.
Fare for the bus to Boston is $40. Rides to Wilmington or Philadelphia will cost $20, according to the company’s Web site.
Azumah added that the bus line has plans to expand soon.
“In the near future, we expect to begin service directly from Washington to Syracuse, N.Y., Albany, N.Y., Raleigh, N.C., Charlotte, N.C., Pittsburgh, Pa., and Secaucus, N.J.”
The company also is looking into the use of other modes of transportation. According to the Web site, TransportAzumah will attempt to use bus, van, rail and air service in the future.
