Police have been unable to determine the whereabouts or intentions of an armed man reported near campus on Canal Road Saturday, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Students were informed early Saturday evening via the HOYAlert text system of an armed man in Glover Park near Canal Road. The United States Park Police and Metropolitan Police Department responded to the call.
“U.S. Park Police investigated the report. They sent officers to the area and couldn’t locate an individual. Once they cleared the area and couldn’t locate anybody, we also put out a message to our community to let them know they didn’t find anything,” DPS Chief of Police Jay Gruber said.
It is unclear with what the person was armed.
“The report was that it was some sort of long weapon,” Gruber said.
Gruber added that U.S. Park Police and MPD responded accordingly, and his unit will not be following up on the report.
“Since the event, we haven’t done any follow up with the Park Police. There have been no further reports — that’s an area outside of our primary jurisdiction so we rely on Park Police and MPD to provide us with information,” Gruber said.
