Georgetown Director of Athletics Joseph Lang announced the departure of Women’s Soccer Head Coach Leonel Popel in a Dec. 21 press release.

In his six years at Georgetown, Popel coached the Hoyas to an overall record of 38-55-3 and no winning seasons.

Popel joined Georgetown six years ago with the founding of the women’s soccer program. He ended the 1998 season with a 4-9-1 record overall and a 1-9-1 record in the Big East, finishing in last place in the conference.

He left Georgetown for undisclosed reasons and the university has made no announcement yet of his successor. In fact, the press release also contains an address towhich people interested in coaching Georgetown’s women’s soccer team can send their resumes.

“We understand that top quality people sometimes need to explore other career options,” Lang said in the release. “We will miss Leonel and wish him the best, knowing he will be successful in any career path he chooses to pursue.”
