Esherick Signs Contract Extension

Charles Nailen/The Hoya Men’s basketball coach Craig Esherick

Georgetown men’s basketball Head Coach Craig Esherick (GSB ’78, LAW ’82) has been given a contract extension through the 2008-09 season, the Washington Post reported on its Web site last night.

The terms of the contract, which has been in negotiations for more than four months, were not disclosed.

With the contract extension comes added stability to a program which has seen several transfers in recent seasons and one player, Wesley Wilson, leave the team earlier this year. Esherick coached the Hoyas to a 19-15 record this past season. They made a run of four wins in the National Invitation Tournament before losing the championship game to St. John’s.

“We’re very happy with what Craig is doing with our program,” Athletic Director Joe Lang told the Post. “We want to make sure everyone understands our commitment to him.”

Esherick, whose career record is 90-59, has coached the Hoyas since 1999, when he took over for Head Coach Emeritus John Thompson.
