Corp To Fund Three Scholarships

The Corp may just have a way students can finance their tuition bills.

The Board of Directors of the Students of Georgetown, Inc., known as The Corp, announced Monday that it will once again accept applications for three $1,000 monetary scholarships.

Last year, More Uncommon Grounds, a service run by The Corp, awarded $5,000 in scholarships in increments of $500 and $1,000.

One of this year’s three scholarships is reserved for employees of The Corp while the other two awards are open for any Georgetown undergraduate student who is not currently employed by The Corp.

As with last year, the award will be based on criteria including strength of character, commitment to the community, dedication to others, innovative thinking, personal initiative and good academic standing.

“We are looking for students who have done things the average student is not doing,” Corp President Kelsey Shannon (COL ’04) said. He said that contributions to the Georgetown student body, such as leadership of a club or part-time employment while taking classes, constitute activities that deserve recognition.

Applications, due Oct. 6, are available on the door of Vital Vittles in the Leavey Center and will be available online at www.thecorp.org. All applications will be reviewed by The Corp’s Board of Directors, which is comprised of three internal officers of The Corp and four undergraduates with no prior affiliation with The Corp. Winners will be announced a week later on Oct. 13 via the Corp Web site.
