Working for The Hoya is one of the most rewarding experiences available to a Georgetown undergraduate. For over 90 years, The Hoya has provided the best journalism education on campus, offering staffers a professional and life-changing experience not found in any classroom. Editorial
News: A Special to The Hoya is responsible for investigating and writing articles on the issues relevant to the Georgetown and greater DC community.
Sports: A Special to The Hoya is responsible for small sports pieces and can work their way up to larger assignments and covering a team for an entire season.
Opinion: An Opinion New Hire typically helps to find and polish Verdicts, first read editorials, find web comments, headline and pull quotes.
Online/Blog: A Blog Writer is responsible for writing fun and quirky stories that usually do not get covered in the newspaper.
Guide: A Guide New Hire is responsible for writing arts and entertainment themed stories about Georgetown and the DC area.
Copy: A Copy New Hire is responsible for ensuring the professionalism of every story printed. This includes checking for grammar, style and factual correctness.
Layout: A Layout New Hire is responsible for the design and structure of the newspaper.
Photo: A Photo New Hire is responsible for the photo coverage of events on campus and around DC.
Publishing
Sales: A Sales Assistant at The Hoya is responsible for selling print and online advertisements to the community, which in turn provides the funds that allow us to produce the paper.
Finance: An Accounts Assistant is responsible for the management of the newspaper’s finances and verifying transactions the newspaper participates in.
Technology: A Technology Assistant maintains the internal Hoya network with a particular focus on the maintenance of all office computers, the network infrastructure and the local server.
Personnel: A Human Resources Assistant is responsible for planning social events, managing employee relations, and resolving day-to-day issues in the newspaper’s operations.
Corporate Development: A Corporate Development Assistant is responsible for working with the alumni network to coordinate alumni relations projects.
Marketing: A Marketing Assistant is responsible for collaborating in the development and implementation of new marketing campaigns for The Hoya.
