As Saturday afternoon approaches, so does reality for nearly two dozen members of the Georgetown football team. Tomorrow represents the final opportunity to don the Blue and Gray, to gather in the huddle and to walk off the gridiron a winner.
On Saturday, Georgetown (0-10, 0-5 Patriot League) was thoroughly dismantled by the businesslike Richmond offense. The defending FCS National Champions executed well in both the passing and rushing departments, en route to tallying a total of seven touchdowns.
Darby was only recently thrust into a starting role, making him the third starting quarterback the Hoyas have employed this year.
Football consists of four 15-minute quarters, with the game reaching its conclusion only when the clock hits zero. This past weekend, Georgetown learned this truth the hard way in what proved to be a rollercoaster ride of a game.
Charlie Houghton always comes back. No matter how hard opponents may try, they just can’t finish him off. For almost four seasons now, Houghton has been Georgetown’s lead speed train, carrying each year’s offensive unit.
After opening the season 0-7, the bye week could not have come at a better time for the Hoyas. The extra rest was a time to move forward, refocus and, most importantly, rest their weary legs.
Junior defensive back Paul Sant'Ambrogio has stepped up in a big way for the Hoyas this season— good for fifth best on the team.
“Thing’s aren’t always going to work out the way you want them to, so you’ve got to keep working,” junior linebacker Patrick O’Donnell said. “The only way to win is to keep playing."
Another cold and dreary Saturday proved disappointing for the Hoyas this weekend.
