Georgetown football played in the 1941 Orange Bowl, losing 14-7 to ississippi State. at a track and field competition at New York’s adison Square Garden in 1940, Georgetown’s Al Blozis set three world shot put records. Blozis went on to play football for the NFL’s New York Giants, who retired his jersey, number 32. five Georgetown runners participated in the 1924 summer Olympic Games in Paris, two of whom brought home medals. in 1925, Georgetown’s football team finished 9-1, allowing just 19 points all season. the Georgetown football team won 23 straight games from 1938 to 1940. Georgetown competed in its first women’s intercollegiate sporting event at a sailing regatta in 1954 Georgetown alumnus Leo Sexton set a world record in shot put at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, winning a gold medal. Georgetown’s men’s basketball team has registered 54 victories against George Washington University, its most against any one school. Georgetown defeated GW 20 straight times between 1907 and 1938. Georgetown’s men’s lacrosse team set school records for most wins (13), consecutive wins (9) and winning percentage (.813) last season.
