Friday, October 1, 2004 Beslan Response Reveals a Generous GU

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Georgetown Orthodox Christian Fellowship, we would like to express our gratitude to The Hoya for its articles “Club Aids Victims of Beslan School Siege” (The Hoya, Sept. 21, 2004, A1) and “A Commendable Effort” (The Hoya, Sept. 24, 2004, A2).

We were touched that The Hoya found our cause worthy of reporting, responded positively and brought our message to students.

Once again, we would also like to thank the Georgetown community for its support. Our fundraiser could not have been a success without the help of the students and faculty who stopped by our table and contributed.

Since The Hoya’s first publication on the Beslan Fund, we have received additional contributions, bringing our total to $1,750. These funds are now in the process of being sent to the International Orthodox Christian Charities, who will transfer the aid to North Ossetia.

The biggest lesson we have learned through our fundraiser is this – Georgetown is truly a community with a generous heart and power to make a difference in the world.
